God of War Ragnarok: The Importance of Brok’s Riddle
God of War Ragnarok answered a lot of questions and revealed a lot of secrets, but it also left us with a lot of new questions. We can only hope for a sequel, since we can’t get enough God of War. One of the things that the game doesn’t seem to answer is the riddle that one of our favorite Huldra brothers, Brok, told us. In God of War Ragnarok, what was the answer to Brok’s riddle?
Most of the humor in God of War’s Norse lore comes from Brok and Sindri, the fighting dwarfs who make all of the player’s bought gear. Brok and Sindri were fine as side characters in the last game, where every other line of speech they said mentioned what the other had done to Kratos and Faye’s Leviathan Axe. In God of War Ragnarok, they look and act very differently.
Brok is still pretty cold when it comes to the words he picks and how he acts in different situations. He is much more quick-tempered than his brother. Sindri’s character has changed a lot from the clean and anxious person he used to be. Sindri is still easy to turn away, but in God of War: Ragnarok, we finally find out why. Brok and Sindri have had a hard time together in the past, and while secrets come out, Brok keeps asking Mimir a question that stumps him for the rest of the game. Even though the answer to this riddle is simple, it is a big deal at the end of God of War: Ragnarok.
In God of War Ragnarok, what was the answer to Brok’s riddle?
Brok starts off by asking, “What runs with no legs?” to lighten the mood. Mimir from God of War: Ragnarok gives the right answer when he says “a nose.” Brok asks later, “What gets bigger the more you take away from it?” Mimir’s guesses for this riddle don’t work, so he can’t figure it out. We don’t find out right away what the answer to this question is, and Brok is killed before Mimir has a chance to figure it out. This happens when Brok’s intuition tells him that Tyr’s behavior is strange. Tyr turns out to be Odin and stabs Brok, so Brok was right.
We already knew that Sindri brought Brok back to life after he had died a long time ago. However, he could only get back three of Brok’s four soul parts, so Brok could never be whole again or have a spirit leave his body the next time he dies. In God of War Ragnarok, Mimir doesn’t figure out that the answer to the question was “a hole” until Brok’s funeral. This can be taken in many different ways. For example, Brok’s soul is left with a hole, Brok can never be made whole again, and Sindri’s heart is left with a hole after his brother dies. So, what seemed like a fun and mood-lifting question at first becomes one of the saddest parts of the game’s story.
Is there a romance between Atreus and Angrboda in God of War Ragnarok?
Yes. If you go back to Sindri’s house after the game is over and go into Atreus’s old room, Kratos will ask Mimir if he did enough to prepare Atreus not just for fight but also for life and his relationship with Angrboda. Mimir says Kratos could have been “more approachable” about some things. Mimir says that he did the best he could to teach Atreus. In a very rough voice, Kratos asks, “You taught him to woo?” Mimir says, “I taught him how I wish I could have been wooed.” So, we can be sure that Atreus and Angrboda will start a relationship based on respect and love. Plus, wasn’t it cute that she and Atreus held hands after Ragnarok?
What happened to Sindri in God of War Ragnarök?

Sindri’s sadness and trauma over the death of his brother Brok changed him forever. At the end of God of War: Ragnarok, he breaks Odin’s soul and disappears. He does come back for the funeral of his brother. Sony Santa Monica did a great job with Sindri’s change from a neat-freak gear designer to a god-killing killer covered in blood.
Sindri can’t forgive Atreus, which means she can’t forgive Kratos, which is clear when she pushes Kratos away at the funeral. Some people can’t get over a fight with a friend, just like in real life. Some things can’t be forgiven or forgotten.
Sindri never comes back to the blacksmith shops, which is strange because the player has come to rely on Sindri and Brok’s friendly chatter and good work. Instead, their friend Lnda, who is a dwarf, runs the shop.
Sindri Gets the Most Pain of Any Side Character in God of War Ragnarok
Sindri is full of guilt and sadness after Brok’s death, and he blames Kratos and Atreus for letting Odin into his home. No one knew that Odin was really Tyr the whole time, but Sindri’s anger overshadows everything else he knows about what happened after that. Sindri helps the characters of God of War: Ragnarok in the fight at Asgard, but she doesn’t want to. She leaves soon after. He then comes back when Odin’s soul is stuck in one of Atreus’ marbles and kills Odin’s soul by breaking the marble.
In the game’s epilogue, Sindri’s wound never heals, and even though he shows up at Brok’s funeral to say goodbye, he is still deeply scarred and unfriendly. Sindri would normally be embarrassed by how much dirt is on his armor, but he doesn’t try to clean it or change out of what he’s wearing. This shows that Brok was the only thing that really mattered to him. Even though Freya’s brother Freyr sacrifices himself during Ragnarok, Sindri’s character and story change the most. Sindri lost his brother, so it’s not clear where he will go if he shows up in a later God of War game. But if he comes back, Sindri won’t be the same happy, nervous dwarf fans remember.
Will Kratos and Atreus see each other again?

Yes, I think so, but it’s the first time since Faye’s death that they’ve realized they don’t have to be together to feel each other’s love and presence.
When Kratos taps his chest and says, “Loki will go, Atreus remains,” he means that he knows his son is going after the other part of his heritage, but he will always feel his son’s presence in his heart. Kratos shows respect for his son’s personality by calling him by both of his names. He does this because he knows he can’t know or control everything about his son.
Will a third God of War Game come soon?
Sony Santa Monica has said that this will be the last God of War game, but I don’t think that means we can’t have another game in the same world. I could see Atreus as the lead character in a spin-off game where he tries to get more giant spirits for stones and bring the Jotun back to the Nine Realms. Plus, he now knows so many cool teens that I doubt they won’t go on trips together.
